Dairy Cows

Dairy farmers especially have been quick to grasp the benefits of using ultrasound on their herds and, what was once a slow stressful practice with often very variable results in accuracy, is now a streamline operation. For example, herds of 500 - 600 cows in a rotary dairy shed can be pregnancy scanned by an experienced technician in two to three hours and even while the cows are being milked.

Dairy farmers now rely largely on scanning results to confirm AB matings with recorded matings and to have any late / bull matings identified. These later pregnancies can be “aged” to assist calving management, culling, or to plan any possible inductions.
